Many moons ago for Easter din dins, I learned how to make a ham. This is a food item that is SO EASY. Honest to goodness, if you barely boil water even YOU can make this.
Literally three ingredients: the ham, a can of ginger ale and a 1/2 cup of light brown sugar. I’m not even joking. Cut some slits in the ham, pour a can of ginger ale over it, rub brown sugar all over the top and pop it in the oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes per pound. Be sure to cover with aluminum half way through if it’s getting tooooooo brown. I always have to do this in my new Cafe oven. She cooks hella fast.
The ginger ale and brown sugar create a glorious crackly crust that is a beautiful contrast to the salty nature of the ham. These elements also cut the saltiness from the dish so that it’s not too salty, often a drawback to a ham.
I like to serve my ham with Mommom Sacco’s String Beans and my Roasted Potatoes with Red Onions.
