Baked Greek Chicken Meatballs

Baked Greek Chicken Meatballs are so easy to make and filled with all the fabulous flavors of Greek cuisine. These work as a main or as an appie. The Greek yogurt sauce is a must, and you can totally make it ahead.

Feel free to omit the feta if you don’t groove on that. Sometimes I make them without and just serve the feta on the side.

You can easily make these with ground turkey if that’s what you have!

Ingredients

  • For the meatballs
  • Nonstick baking spray such as Pam

  • 2 lbs. ground chicken

  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten

  • 6 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup flat leaf parsley, minced

  • 1 tsp. dried oregano

  • 1 tsp. dried parsley

  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin

  • 1/2 cup onion, minced

  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 1/2 tsp. salt

  • Fresh black pepper to taste

  • Optional: 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

  • Optional: Zest of 1 lemon

  • For the yogurt dipping sauce
  • 10 oz. Greek yogurt

  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 2 Tbsp. flat leaf parsley, minced

  • 2 scallion greens, minced

  • 1 Tbsp. white wine vinegar

  • 1/4 tsp. salt

  • Fresh black pepper

Directions

  • For the meatballs
  • In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, eggs, garlic, fresh parsley, dried parsley, dried oregano, cumin, onion, panko, feta, lemon zest, and salt and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until well combined. Refrigerate for an hour or two so that flavors marinate together.
  • When ready to bake the meatballs, spray two baking sheets with nonstick spray. Roll meat mixture into balls about 1 inch in diameter. For easier cleanup, line two baking sheets with non-stick aluminum foil. Spray the foil with nonstick spray.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Place prepared trays into hot oven for 10 minutes. Rotate trays and bake for 8-10 minutes longer. Meatballs should be cooked through.
  • If desired, place each tray under a hot broiler for a minute or two. Serve hot or warm with yogurt sauce. (Recipe below)
  • For the yogurt sauce
  • Combine all the ingredients in a bowl, and gently stir together with a spoon until well blended.
  • Refrigerate if made well ahead. This sauce is more flavorful the longer the ingredients marinate together. I like to give it at least an hour.
